The Teulon community is coordinating a fundraiser for the son of a single father who died earlier this month. After the death of Sean Lawson, 12-year-old Brody was left behind. “He was a rock of a dad. He was doing everything he could for his son, being a single father and that is what we know of Sean,” said Debbie Kozyra, the family’s spokesperson. “He was a person that absolutely did not deserve this.” Now, Teulon is coming together to support Brody. Community and family members coordinated with a local Access Credit Union branch to set up a fund for Brody. The fund will help him in the aftermath of Sean’s death. “They will go towards expenses needed right now—such as counselling, therapy, everyday expenses, school activities,” Kozyra explained. “Also, we would like to put away some funds so that Brody can look to the future and put some funds away in an education savings plan,” she added. The response has been tremendous, and donations are coming in from beyond Manitoba. RCMP arrested 24-year-old Donovain Skogan and charged him with second-degree murder and intimidation of a justice system participant in regard to the death. For now, the family is asking for privacy—but wants the public to know any help is appreciated. “The family would like to express their thankfulness for the kindness and generosity to anyone who donates towards the Funds for Brody,” Kozyra said.
