The Giant Tiger location in downtown Winnipeg will soon close its doors. According to signs posted outside the store at Donald Street and Ellice Avenue, the shop will close on Nov. 7. However, this isn’t the first location the discount retailer has closed in Winnipeg over the last few years, with its Main Street and McPhillips Street stores shuttering in 2024. At the time, Giant Tiger told CTV News that while the stores were impacted by theft and violence, they were not factors in the decision to close. A spokesperson for the store told CTV News that the decision to close any of their stores is not taken lightly and is made with careful consideration and analysis. They noted that their priority is to support staff and customers, adding that the company is working with affected employees.
