Funnel cloud spotted near Stonewall

MYNEWS contributor Courtesy Tatym Stenberg spotted this funnel cloud about four kilometers north of Stonewall at around 3:00 p.m.

Environment Canada has confirmed at least one funnel cloud was in the sky near Stonewall at around 3:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

A CTV viewer took a picture of one funnel cloud about four kilometers north of the town. Five minutes later, another funnel cloud was reported near the St. Andrews airport.

Officials say these two reports could be of the same funnel cloud.

Saskatchewan pummelled

Meanwhile parts of southern Saskatchewan are cleaning up after being hammered last night by torrential rain, hail, and a reported tornado.

One of the harder-hit areas is Saskatoon, which got drenched by 40-millimetres of rain in less than two hours, leaving several streets looking like rivers.

Saskatoon also got hit by hail the size of marbles, although some residents say it was as big as golfballs.

The hail smashed the window of at least one truck.

There's an unconfirmed report of a tornado touching down southeast of Saskatoon.

In Regina, last night's CFL game between the Roughriders and Montreal Alouettes was delayed for almost an hour by heavy rain.

Environment Canada meteorologist Mike Russo says this type of severe weather usually occurs in Saskatchewan in late spring or early summer.

Russo says it's happening later than usual this summer because temperatures have been lower than normal.

The funnel cloud near Stonewall was not part of the Saskatchewan system.
