Two fires kept Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews busy early Sunday. At 1:10 a.m., firefighters were called to a blaze at a two-storey home in the 400 block of Powers Street. Crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the structure and launched an offensive attack. A person was rescued from the second floor using a ladder. Paramedics assessed the individual at the scene, and they did not require hospital care. The fire was declared under control at 1:46 a.m. One cat was found dead. An investigation is underway. No damage estimates are available. Second fire on Pacific Avenue At 4:11 a.m., crews responded to a vehicle fire in the 500 block of Pacific Avenue. When they arrived, firefighters found the flames had spread to a carport and the exterior of a neighbouring house. Crews brought the fire under control before it reached the interior of the home. No injuries were reported. An investigation is ongoing. No damage estimates are available.
