The province is offering its condolences after the death of a Manitoba correctional centre inmate. In a statement, Manitoba Justice said a 26-year-old woman died while in the custody of the Women’s Correctional Centre. The centre is located in Headingley, a community west of Winnipeg. She died on Jan. 3. The statement said her death was reported to Manitoba’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, which is legally required. “Manitoba Justice extends condolences to the family,” the release said. The province said it would not provide other information about the woman due to privacy reasons.
