Duo arrested after allegedly assaulting convenience store clerk

A duo was arrested after allegedly assaulting a convenience store employee with a weapon.

In a media release, Winnipeg police said at approximately 7:12 p.m. on Saturday, a 37-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman got into a dispute at a convenience store in the 400 block of Talbot Avenue.

According to police, the clerk at the store was assaulted with items inside the store during the dispute. A person walked into the store during the incident, interrupting the assault, police said.

The force was notified and the duo left before officers arrived.

When officers arrived, they reviewed security footage and spoke with the clerk. While the officers were talking with the clerk, the duo came back and claimed they were assaulted by the employee.

The 37-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman were arrested. Both are facing a charge of assault with a weapon.

The man was detained in custody and the woman was released on an undertaking.

None of the charges have been tested in court.
