Colleen Bready’s Forecast: What will the weather be heading into the long weekend?

Weather conditions across Manitoba and northwestern Ontario on Thursday are straightforward: the sun is shining, the temperatures are warm, and the winds are light.

These stable conditions are courtesy of a ridge of high pressure over western Canada.

Winnipeg, Brandon and the rest of southern Manitoba will see temperatures climb into the upper 20s and low 30s on Thursday afternoon.

Environment and Climate Change Canada says humidex values and overnight lows aren’t high enough to trigger heat warnings. Still, take precautions if you plan to spend time in the sun and heat.

The weather agency says the upper ridge will keep a cap on thunderstorms, with the exception of possible pop-up showers or a thunderstorm in the Parkland region. Any thunderstorms that do develop aren’t expected to become severe.

In northern Manitoba, forecast daytime highs Thursday range from the low to upper 20s, including a hot high of 27 C expected in Lynn Lake.

Further east, temperatures in northwestern Ontario will reach the low 20s this afternoon.

These stable, sunny and warm weather conditions are expected to last over the next few days in Winnipeg, right through to the end of the Labour Day long weekend.

The next day, Tuesday, could be a rude awakening for some, with showers expected and much lower temperatures in the upper teens.
