It is cloudy across southern Manitoba and soggy in northern regions Friday. There is the chance of a scattered shower or two across the south this afternoon, possibly continuing into this evening in Winnipeg and the southeast. Friday’s temperatures are no match for Thursday’s heat. Still, daytime highs should reach the low 20s, slightly above normal for mid-September. The air could have a bit of a bite, though, with northwest winds picking and gusting until mid-evening. Conditions are much the same across northwestern Ontario Friday, just warmer. Temperatures should rise in the mid-20s in the afternoon. Meanwhile, a low pressure system continues to bring heavy rain to northern Manitoba for a second day on Friday. A yellow warning for rainfall issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada Thursday continues Friday for the Churchill and York regions. The weather agency said 25-40 mm of total rainfall is expected by Friday afternoon as rain becomes light. With so much precipitation, the weather agency cautioned that parks and forests will likely be damaged, adding that landslides are possible in vulnerable areas, including steep slopes, deforested areas or recent burn scars. The rest of the north will also see showers, rain or thunderstorms Friday. Expected a cooler weekend in Winnipeg. If you’re attending the many outdoor events on tap Saturday, including the Banjo Bowl at Princess Auto Stadium, dress warmly. Expected a mix of sun and cloud, but also an unseasonably cool high around 15 C. Sunday will be sunnier and warmer, with a more seasonal high in the upper teens.
