Waterloo Regional Police have released the photo of a person they want to speak to as part of an investigation into buy-and-sell thefts in Kitchener. They said several incidents were reported between May 13 and Sept. 4. The victims told police they had advertised items for sale through an online platform. They were then contacted by an interested buyer who agreed to meet up in person. “During the interactions, the victims did not receive payment for the items and, in some instances, the suspect gained access to the victims’ banking applications and made unauthorized transactions,” a media release said. “The resulting financial losses ranged from hundreds to thousands of dollars.” Waterloo Regional Police did not specify what kind of items had been listed for sale. They advised both sellers and buyers to meet up in a well-lit public place, such as the Buy and Sell Exchange Zones at local police detachments: 45 Columbia Street East in Waterloo, 200 Maple Grove Road in Cambridge or 176 Hespeler Road in Cambridge. Anyone who has information that can help with the investigation is asked to call 519-570-9777, extension 2227.
