A mother and her young son were tragically killed in a crash on Highway 1 in B.C.’s Interior on Thursday, according to police. RCMP say the crash was between a Mercedes SUV and a Honda Civic and occurred at about 3 p.m. in the 5300 block of Highway 1, west of Chase. Despite the efforts of first responders, two Kamloops residents—a 47-year-old woman and her 11-year-old son—were declared dead at the scene. The driver of the Mercedes was hospitalized with serious injuries, police said. “The loss of life in any incident is tragic, and our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of those affected during this incredibly difficult time,” said RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Brett Urano, in a statement. “As this investigation is in its infancy, investigators are working to determine exactly what occurred, and we are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or captured relevant dash camera footage to come forward.” Those with information are urged to call the Chase RCMP at 250-679-3221 and reference file number 2026-2282.
