A planned controlled burn cleared approximately five hectares (12.5 acres) in the Nottawasaga Tract in Clearview Township. The undertaking is part of ongoing forest restoration efforts following the 2025 ice storm, which left significant debris and bush after damaged trees were removed. “By safely reducing this material, the controlled burn helps lower fire risk, improve access for future reforestation work, and supports the long-term health and resilience of the forest ecosystem,” said Graeme Davis, County of Simcoe forester. “Conducted by trained forestry professionals under carefully monitored conditions, controlled burns are an important forest management tool that mimic natural ecological processes and help prepare sites for regeneration,” Davis said. The area will be replanted and continue to be part of Simcoe County’s acres of municipal forest, he said.
