After we felt the chill of a cold front passing over the prairies Thursday, sunshine and warmer temperatures have returned Friday to southern Manitoba. Daytime highs will reach the mid to upper teens across the south this afternoon, including in Winnipeg and Brandon. But it will be a windy day, with strong and gusty southwest winds. It is a similar scenario across most of northern Manitoba Friday – sunshine or a mix of sun and cloud, with double-digit highs returning to most of the region. Some of the northernmost areas will be contending with strong and gusty winds from the northwest, helping to hold Tadoule Lake and Churchill to single-digit highs closer to 6 C or 7 C this afternoon. Sunshine will gradually stretch from west to east across northwestern Ontario Friday, with afternoon highs between 13 C and 15 C. By Friday evening, there is a good chance of showers spreading across the southwest, including Branson and Dauphin, before reaching Winnipeg and the southeast overnight. The first weekend of October will start off cloudy in Winnipeg Saturday, then turn sunny on Sunday. Daytime highs both days will reach near 16 C. Look for temperatures to climb even higher in the city during the first half of next week in the sunshine.
