Yes, it is early January, but try telling that to the forecast highs this afternoon across southern Manitoba and northwestern Ontario.

Temperatures are expected to climb around 10 degrees above normal, coming close to the freezing mark.

It’s possible some areas could even surpass 0 C.

All this while the sun is shining and the winds are light.

Daytime highs across northern Manitoba won’t rise as high Wednesday, but are still above normal for this time of year.

The most northern regions are forecast to reach the minus mid-teens, which are the coldest afternoon temperatures expected in Manitoba.

Skies conditions are varied across the north. Areas closer to central Manitoba will be sunny, while regions further north will be cloudy.

Ahead Wednesday night, there is a chance of freezing rain across the south, beginning in the evening in Brandon and the southwest, before moving to Winnipeg and the southeast late tonight.

Temperatures may fall Thursday afternoon in Winnipeg, but will remain unseasonably mild – and the sun will still be shining.

Look for unseasonably mild temperatures and sunshine to continue into early next week in the city.
