The daily seesaw between rain and sunshine over the last few days continues in southern Manitoba Monday. After a soggy start to the weekend on Saturday and a sunny Sunday, rain has returned to Winnipeg and the south. A low pressure disturbance that brought rain and thunderstorms to the Dakotas is now spreading intermittent rain across the region and into northwestern Ontario Monday afternoon. Rain or showers will likely continue Monday evening, particularly in the southeast, but the heaviest rainfall will be in Ontario. Fort Frances could pick up 30-40 mm Monday night, after five mm is expected this afternoon, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada. A significant soaking is also expected in Dryden and, to a lesser extent, in Kenora tonight. Daytime highs Monday are forecast to reach the mid-teens on both sides of the provincial border. Meanwhile, northern Manitoba is basking in sunshine Monday in strong and gusty southwest winds. Like we saw last week, temperatures will be warmer in the north than in the south, with highs expected to reach the mid- to upper teens in most areas this afternoon. Tuesday will be dry but cloudy in Winnipeg before some late afternoon sun. Sunshine will continue on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Wednesday to close out the month of September. Sunny skies or a mix of sun and cloud will continue Thursday to start off October and continue through the first weekend of the month.
