Warning: Graphic content A southern Alberta teenager has been charged with terrorism-related offences, as well as child sexual abuse and animal cruelty, following an investigation by RCMP. Members of the RCMP’s Federal Policing Northwest Region’s Integrated National Security Enforcement Team (INSET) arrested the 17-year-old Lethbridge resident on Sept. 3. INSET says it launched an investigation after Lethbridge police flagged a Discord user who was believed to be affiliated with the violent online group 764. Mounties say the group, which was added to Canada’s list of terrorist entities last December, is comprised of violent online predators who lure youth and encourage them to commit child sexual abuse and exploitation, self-harm and the torture of animals. “Investigators determined that the user’s online activity was consistent with that of the 764 network,” INSET said in a news release. As a result of the investigation, the youth was arrested and charged with: Because the accused in under 18, their identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. They are scheduled to appear in court in Lethbridge on Oct. 14. Police are asking anyone with information about suspicious activity to contact the RCMP National Security Information Network at 1-800-420-5805. Anyone who believes there is an immediate threat to national security is asked to call 911 or their local police service.
