Police in North Bay charged a man and a woman with numerous offences after officers say they identified them as parties to an assault on two people on Sept. 22. Police said the investigation indicated the pair were also involved in drug trafficking. “(Police) seized more than $100,000 worth of suspected fentanyl and crystal methamphetamine, a significant amount of property believed to have been stolen from local retailers, a loaded .22-calibre revolver-style handgun and additional ammunition,” police said in a news release Sept. 28. Police said officers were called at about 1 p.m. last Tuesday, receiving a report that two people had been assaulted. “Reportedly, one person was struck with a baton and another was sprayed with bear spray. One person was taken to hospital for treatment,” said police. At about 8 p.m. on Thursday, officers executed a search warrant at a residence in the 2100 block of Trout Lake Road related to their investigation, locating both accused in the home. As a result, the local man, 41, has been charged with 10 offences, including assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, two drug trafficking offences and three counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order. The woman, 25, also from North Bay, faces 12 charges, including assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, administering a noxious thing, two drug trafficking offences and failing to comply with a probation order.. “Crime of this magnitude has a direct and potentially lethal impact on our vulnerable people and creates serious risks to the safety of our community that reach far beyond those directly involved,” said Insp. Scott McFarlane. Both accused were remanded after a bail hearing and are scheduled to appear in court Oct. 7.
