As the Saskatchewan Roughriders returned to practice Monday for the first time since their Week 17 loss to the B.C. Lions, quarterback Trevor Harris was not a full participant as he dealt with an illness. Harris was around the team for the entirety of the practice session, but did not wear a helmet and only threw select passes outside of the offence. Back-up Jack Coan took all the first team reps. “[Trevor] was not feeling 100 [per cent],” head coach Corey Mace told reporters after team activities. “He’ll be okay.” Meanwhile, the defensive side saw the return of a key piece Monday. For the first time in two months, defensive back Tevaughn Campbell was back on the practice field — albeit in a limited capacity. “I feel healthy,” he said Monday. “I feel as good as I can feel after what I’ve been through. But I just take it day by day and am getting back to the swing of things.” Campbell broke his arm in Week 9 against the Edmonton Elks — the same game which Kian Schaffer-Baker sustained a knee injury. The break required surgery to fix, forcing the 2025 All-CFL cornerback to miss the last seven games as he rehabbed. “There’s not a lot you can do after you get surgery; you’ve just got to wait until it heals,” Campbell said. “When you get the strength back, you can work on physio and mainly get the strength and range of motion back in my joints like my elbow and wrist.” Campbell made his return to the CFL in 2025 after a stint in the NFL with the LA Chargers and Jacksonville Jaguars. In 13 games last season, he recorded 19 tackles and six interceptions. So far through seven games in 2026, Campbell has 16 tackles but has yet to record a pick. Mace was asked about the timeline for Campbell’s potential return. “Pretty damn close,” the coach said. “He’s out here so that’s a good sign.” The injection of the all-star DB is welcomed. “My brother’s back,” said fellow defensive back DeMarcus Fields. “He brings back that speed, that flash type of guy. We need some of that back.” Fields added he was happy to have him around and working out again. “Between last week getting A.J. [Ouellette] and [Schaffer-Baker] back — and then T.C. on the horizon, Sam [Emilus] on the horizon — we’re getting a bunch of guys back,” Mace said. “It’s awesome to have [Campbell] out here. We miss his playmaking ability.” Campbell appears to be on as similar return strategy as Ouellette and Schaffer-Baker. In the week prior to their respective returns, they each began practice activities in limited capacities. However, neither were in the lineup after a full week of limited practice participation. Instead, they ramped up participation in Week 17 ahead of the game against B.C. when they returned. Harris’ practice availability will continue to be monitored ahead of Friday’s game when Saskatchewan hosts the Calgary Stampeders.
