It is a warm and sunny start to the fall season on Monday in Manitoba.

The autumnal equinox officially occurs at 1:19 p.m. central time and with it, temperatures are unseasonably high. Every region in the province will see daytime highs soar well into the 20s, with humidex values that will feel even warmer.

For perspective, Winnipeg and Churchill are both forecast to climb to 24 C this afternoon, which is particularly remarkable for the northern town, whose normal daytime high for this time of year is 6 C. The normal daytime high for Winnipeg is 16 C.

An upper ridge of high pressure stretching over Manitoba is also keeping the sun shining on the south Monday, while northern regions will see a mix of sun and cloud.

Meanwhile, fall will get off to a cloudy start across northwestern Ontario, with the outside chance of showers or drizzle. Most areas around the region are forecast to reach a warm high of 22 C.

Ahead Monday night, the sky will be relatively clear across the south, although fog patches could develop overnight in Winnipeg, the southeast and the Interlake. That could reduce visibility for overnight and into the Tuesday morning commute.
