Colleen Bready’s forecast: A swift shift to summertime heat

After a spring that’s left a lot to be desired with many cool and grey days, we are suddenly catapulted into summertime conditions this week in Winnipeg and across southern Manitoba.

Sunshine and increasing heat are in store on Monday and over the next few days.

A building upper ridge of high pressure will help to create a heat dome over Manitoba, with temperatures in the upper 20s to mid-30s across the south.

Temperatures across most southern regions will reach the mid to upper 20s on Monday under a mix of sun and cloud.

Meanwhile, a trough of low pressure on its way out of Manitoba could bring showers to the northernmost parts of the province on Monday afternoon.

Sunshine or a mix of sun and cloud are on tap for the rest of the north, with highs in the upper teens and low 20s.

Over the border, much of northwestern Ontario will also see a mix of sun and cloud on Monday, although showers or thunderstorms can’t be ruled. Temperatures will soar into the upper 20s.

Conditions will be quiet on Monday night on both sides of the provincial border as the ridge continues to build.

Expect similar sunny, upper 20s days on Tuesday and Wednesday in Winnipeg.

But if those temperatures aren’t hot enough for you, they will reach the sweltering low to mid-30s from Thursday through the weekend.
