The week is getting off to a stormy start in Manitoba on Monday. Afternoon thunderstorms are sweeping across central regions and the Interlake. Potentially severe thunderstorms are also possible Monday afternoon and evening across the south, including Winnipeg. The culprit for thunderstorms in Manitoba Monday is a shortwave, or low pressure disturbance, over Saskatchewan, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC). The weather agency said the disturbance will pull warm, moist, unstable air into southern Manitoba. That could be just what’s needed to trigger severe thunderstorms late this afternoon and evening. Should severe thunderstorms develop, ECCC said large, damaging hail and strong winds will be concerns, adding tornadoes can’t be ruled out either.
