Colleen Bready’s forecast: A snowy and gusty day ahead in Manitoba

As snow falls in southern Manitoba, the sun is shining on northern regions on Wednesday.

Light snow intermittently skipping along southern regions will start to taper off this afternoon.

The strongest chance of snow is from Dauphin and Swan River through the Interlake into the Whiteshell and Bissett regions. Although, areas further south, including Winnipeg, could also get clipped with light snow or freezing drizzle.

Daytime highs on Wednesday will be in the minus single digits, but strong and gusty northwest winds will likely have a bit of a bite.

Expect similar conditions in northwestern Ontario on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, high pressure continues over northern Manitoba, giving way to sunshine or a mix of sun and cloud in most areas.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has ended a cold warning for the north. Still, daytime highs Wednesday will remain in the -20s, with the coldest temperatures in areas furthest north.

The next chance of snow in the south is on Thursday. ECCC said snow will develop along the northern flank of a low pressure system tracking across the northern United States.

The heaviest band of snow is expected in central Manitoba on Thursday into Friday, where five to 10 centimetres is poised to fall, according to the weather agency.

Sunshine will peek through the clouds again on Friday in Winnipeg, ahead of a sunny weekend with daytime highs well above freezing on Saturday and Sunday.
