Brandon police arrest 20-year-old suspect in aggravated assault

Brandon police have arrested a 20-year-old suspect following an aggravated assault in a local bar.

At approximately 9:45 p.m. on Friday Feb. 13, officers on a downtown patrol encountered an altercation involving four people outside a Brandon bar.

Police say two individuals fled upon seeing officers arrive. A 25-year-old woman approached the officers and said she had been stabbed in the chest. Officers provided first aid on scene after EMS was requested.

A 20-year-old male suspect was located inside the bar. Police say video evidence confirmed the suspect was involved and possessed the knife used in the assault.

The 25-year-old victim was transported to hospital and later transferred to Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg. Police say her injury is considered serious but not life-threatening.

The incident is believed to have started in the bar, but police could not confirm whether the parties were previously known to each other.

None of the charges have been proven in court.
