Bowl autographed by Dolly Parton up for auction at Harvest Manitoba fundraiser

A bowl designed by Dolly Parton is one of the items up for bid in an auction to benefit Harvest Manitoba

A country music icon is lending a helping hand to address food insecurity in Manitoba.

Dolly Parton has donated an artisan bowl for Harvest Manitoba’s Empty Bowls Celebrity Auction & Dinner coming up later this month. The event raises money for Harvest Manitoba to help the organization meet the demand for food support across the province.

The bowls are painted by artists and autographed by celebrities. Harvest Manitoba said when Parton received her first bowl, it arrived broken.

“True to her spirit, she requested more bowls so she could fully participate, wanting to fire, glaze, and decorate the bowl herself,” Harvest Manitoba said in a news release.

The final product incorporates costume pieces from a past performance outfit, including pearls and a feather.

Parton’s bowl is currently being offered for a minimum bid of $2,000.

There are more than 30 bowls from celebrities available for auction this year, including bowls signed by Shania Twain, Katy Perry, Jelly Roll, John Travolta and Whoopi Goldberg.

The auction items can be viewed online, and bidding closes on Oct. 18.

The dinner, celebrating its 40th anniversary, takes place on Oct. 16.
