Archwood wildland fire size of half a football field, Winnipeg fire crews say

Winnipeg firefighters responded to two fires early Saturday morning.

At 2:43 a.m., crews were sent for reports of a fire in the 400 block of Alfred Avenue in the William Whyte neighbourhood.

At the location, firefighters found a residential property fire, attacked and brought it under control at 3:12 a.m.

At 2:58 a.m. in the Archwood neighbourhood, firefighters responded to reports of a grass and wildland fire near Archibald Street and Elizabeth Road.

The fire covered an area about half the size of a football field, firefighters said.

Using the wildland firefighting equipment, crews brought it under control at 4:55 a.m.

For both fires, no injuries were reported and investigations are ongoing.
