Yellow cold warning in effect for Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent

A yellow cold warning is in effect for Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent, as of 1:30 p.m. on Monday.

Environment Canada issued the warning as we expect wind chill values up to -30 C and winds gusting up to 50 km/h.

The ‘bitterly cold conditions’ are expected to last into Tuesday morning. There’s a possibility Tuesday night and into Wednesday will see wind chills around the same values.

You are reminded to keep emergency supplies, like blankets and jumper cables in your car, cover up, and check on vulnerable people. Outdoor workers should take regular breaks to warm up.

Monday: A mix of sun and cloud with a 40 per cent chance of flurries, local blowing snow. Wind west 30 km/h, gusting up to 50 km/h. High -8 C, wind chill near -19 C.

Monday night: Mainly cloudy. 60 per cent chance of flurries overnight. Local blowing snow with winds southwest 30 km/h, gusting to 50 km/h. Low -16 C. Wind chill -19 C Monday evening and -27 C overnight.

Tuesday: Mainly cloudy with a 60 per cent chance of flurries, local blowing snow. Wind southwest 30 km/h, gusting to 50 km/h. High -7 C, wind chill -23 C in the morning, -14 C in the afternoon.

Tuesday night: Clear. Low -18 C.

Wednesday: A mix of sun and cloud with a 30 per cent chance of flurries. High -12 C.

Wednesday night: Cloudy periods with a 40 per cent chance of flurries. Low -17 C.
