A Windsor man is facing impaired driving charges after a woman was critically injured in an early-morning vehicle collision. Windsor police officers were called to a parking lot at Remington Booster Park shortly after 4 a.m. Sunday for reports of an injured person. When officers arrived, they found a woman trapped beneath the tire of a white Chevrolet Equinox. “Emergency crews worked to free the woman from under the vehicle and provided life-saving care at the scene,” police said in a media release Sunday. The victim was taken to hospital she remains in critical condition with “life-threatening injuries.” Police add officers noticed a strong odour of alcohol while speaking with the driver, along with other signs of impairment. The 28-year-old man was arrested and taken to police headquarters, where he failed a breath test. He has been charged with impaired operation of a conveyance causing bodily harm and impaired operation with a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit causing bodily harm. “His name is expected to be released following a formal court appearance,” police added. A second 28-year-old man at the scene was also arrested on an outstanding warrant for mischief under $5,000. The Traffic Reconstruction Unit examined the scene, and the Major Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 519-255-6700, ext. 4830.
