UWindsor student honoured with inaugural Lenore Simpson Women in Business Award

The University of Windsor has awarded its first Lenore Simpson Award at its International Women’s Day event.

Makennah Murphy, a fourth year Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) student with the University of Windsor has been named the first-ever recipient of the Lenore Simpson Women in Business Award at the school’s International Women’s Day event.

She was chosen due to her academic excellence and leadership, earning the Dean’s Renewable Scholarship for Honour Roll standing, the 2024 Made a Difference Award, and the 2026 Dean’s Award for Excellence in Leadership.

The event also featured Sen. Sandra Pupatello, a former Ontario cabinet minister and advocate for economic development and gender equality. She spoke about leadership in an ever-evolving business industry.

“She was the one we watched and really, she was the one that counselled us to get where we’re going in our own careers, so it is perfect that today we’re going to have the first recipient of the Lenore Simpson Scholarship Fund,” said Pupatello.

“We are investing directly in the next generation of women leaders and strengthening pathways for their success,” Dr. Josianne Marsan, Dean of the Odette School of Business added.
