Safety Village’s trick-or-treat event breaks attendance records

The Safety Village welcomed over 1,500 visitors for a record-breaking Trick-or-Treat in the Village event.

Families from across Windsor-Essex came together for a fun and educational evening focused on safe Halloween celebrations on Thursday. It was the most well-attended event in The Safety Village’s history.

The event brought together community partners, volunteers, and local organizations to promote a safe Halloween experience for young trick-or-treaters.

“It truly takes a village to bring an event like this to life,” said Melissa Lauzon, executive director of The Safety Village. “Seeing more than 1,500 visitors join us this year is truly inspiring. The support from our sponsors and partners allows us to teach kids essential safety skills in a fun, engaging way - something that makes a real difference every Halloween.”

As Halloween night approaches, The Safety Village reminds families of a few key safety tips to help keep children safe:

• Be visible: Add reflective tape to costumes and carry flashlights or glow sticks.
• Cross safely: Always use crosswalks and make eye contact with drivers before crossing the street.
• Stay together: Young children should always trick-or-treat with an adult or in a group.
• Check treats: Parents and caregivers should inspect all candy before it’s eaten.
• Plan your route: Choose well-lit streets and familiar neighborhoods.
