Regular service on O-Train Line 1 resumed Monday afternoon, several hours after part of the line was shut down for repairs. A section of the line was shut down Monday morning after a component of the overhead catenary system east of Tremblay Station was found to be damaged at around 8:45 a.m., according to OC Transpo spokesperson Katrina Camposarcone-Stubbs. “Rideau Transit Maintenance (RTM) technicians are on-site working to safely repair the component. While this work is underway, R1 service is operating approximately every 10 minutes between Rideau and Hurdman stations. O-Train Line 1 continues to operate in both directions between Tunney’s Pasture and Rideau stations and between Blair and Hurdman stations,” she said in an email to CTV News Ottawa. Camposarcone-Stubbs said sections of the overhead catenary system had to be powered down in order to perform the work, which affected several stations. The issue came on the first day of the new weekday schedule for the O-Train. OC Transpo’s new fall schedule came into effect on Sunday and with it, shorter headways for the LRT. Line 1 service was increased to every four minutes during peak periods on weekday mornings and afternoons, every six minutes during the midday period, and every seven minutes during the evenings. OC Transpo alerted customers just before 9:30 a.m. on Monday that Line 1 service at uOttawa, Lees, and Hurdman stations would be on the westbound platform only, with a second update about an hour later saying trains were running every 20 minutes. At around 11:15 a.m., OC Transpo launched R1 bus service between Rideau and Hurdman stations, with trains running between Tunney’s Pasture & Rideau stations and between Blair & Hurdman stations. Regular service resumed at around 1:40 p.m. The City of Ottawa and OC Transpo are anticipating an additional 65,000 trips a week into downtown Ottawa as federal public servants spend more time in the office and post-secondary students return for the fall semester.
