Provincial police say they are investigating whether a targeted arson at a Windsor home is connected to the killing of a woman in LaSalle, speaking with CTV News Monday after issuing a media release about the development a day earlier. The OPP said officers responded around 9:30 p.m. on March 3 to reports of a person in medical distress at a residence on Todd Lane in LaSalle. Police said officers found a woman with serious injuries consistent with a stabbing. She was taken to hospital, where she later died. The victim was identified as 45-year-old Nancy Grewal of Windsor. As the investigation progressed, police said investigators learned the Windsor Police Service had previously responded to Grewal’s residence in Windsor months earlier after a deliberately set fire. Speaking to CTV News on Monday, OPP Sgt. Ed Sanchuk said police are now releasing surveillance footage of that earlier incident in hopes someone may recognize the suspect or vehicle involved. “The Ontario Provincial Police is releasing surveillance video in partnership with the Windsor Police Service related to a targeted arson that may be connected to an ongoing homicide investigation,” Sanchuk said. Police said the arson occurred in the early morning hours of Nov. 8, 2025. According to investigators, surveillance footage shows a van stopping in front of the home. A man is then seen exiting the passenger side of the vehicle carrying a gas can, pouring a liquid substance on the front porch and setting it on fire before getting back into the van and fleeing the area. Sanchuk said investigators are urging members of the public to carefully watch the video and report anything that might help identify the suspect. “We’re asking anyone in the community that may have any information, if they do see the video, please pay attention to the suspect’s description, how they’re walking, their movements, and their hands as well,” he said. “If anyone recognizes the clothing or their mannerisms, they’re being urged to have that confidence and that courage to contact their local police service.” Sanchuk said investigators believe the fire was deliberately set and are now trying to determine whether it was connected to Grewal’s death. “It appears to be a deliberately set fire and what we’re trying to determine right now is if this targeted arson was somehow connected to the ongoing homicide investigation,” he said. “Sometimes what people think is just a simple piece of information may hold the key to the piece of the puzzle investigators are looking for.” The Windsor Police Service Arson Unit previously investigated the fire and followed all possible leads, but no suspect has been identified. The homicide investigation is being led by the LaSalle Police Service under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service. Police say investigators are continuing to follow all leads. “We want to leave no stone unturned,” Sanchuk said. “We’re going to follow all leads to where it takes us.” CTV News reached out to the Windsor Police Service for comment.
