Next phase of major summer-long Leamington road work pushed by a week

Road work on Seacliff Dr. in Leamington has been a constant so far this construction season and now another section is set to close for the summer as crews move along the project’s route.

On Thursday, the Municipality of Leamington issued a notice that construction on Seacliff Dr. E will move to its next phase a week later than expected, with the required road closure beginning May 26 instead of May 19 as first planned.

That will see the full road closure of the key east-west route in the community move to east of Bevel Line and west of County Rd. 33, until October 30^th.

In addition to new road, curb, and sidewalk improvements, the reconstruction project will add new sanitary and storm sewers, watermains, and multi-use paths.

New traffic signals will also be installed at the intersection of Peter Ave., Bevel Line, and Seacliff Dr. E.

The east-end reconstruction project has been ongoing since February, bringing about lane restrictions, delays, and temporary closures.

And it’s not the only major project underway closing the arterial road with a west-end section also being rebuilt to include a roundabout and sanitary sewer improvements.

The municipality stresses construction schedules are subject to change should weather or other delays slow construction.

A news release from the municipality outlines key expectations for road users concerning the east-end of Seacliff Dr. beginning May 26:

• The section of Seacliff Dr. E, east of Bevel Line to west of County Rd. 33, will be closed to all traffic for the duration of this phase of construction.
• The section of Seacliff Dr. E between Regatta Dr. and east of Bevel Line will open to local traffic, with intermittent lane closures and delays expected.

Access to Seneca Rd. will change:

• Peter Ave. (between Seacliff Dr. E and Christina Cres.) remains closed until approximately October 30, weather permitting.
• Businesses within the construction zone remain open and accessible. Please follow the appropriate detour route(s).
• Residents and motorists must follow posted detour routes.
