A 38-year-old man is facing charges after a collision that killed a pedestrian and damaged a drop-in centre in Lowertown last February. On Feb. 25, four pedestrians were struck by an SUV that slammed into the building that houses the drop-in centre on Rideau Street at Cobourg Street. A man in his 70s who was waiting for the centre to open later died in hospital. Two men suffered also suffered critical injuries and a woman was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. On Monday, Ottawa police said Abdelkader Amorouayeche was charged with one count of careless driving causing death and two counts of careless driving causing bodily harm. “Our thoughts remain with the family and loved ones of the person who died, as well as those affected by this collision,” Ottawa police said. The Drop-In, operated by Capital City Mission, offers free meals and coffee to those in need. The centre reopened in April.
