Installation of new garbage bins in Windsor helps ‘tackle litter and debris’

Beginning in August, the city of Windsor is introducing a new garbage bin to the downtown.

The first installation of its kind in Canada, the metroSTOR RCF-Series is a one-way deposit system that allows waste to stay contained inside.

Part of Strengthen the Core – Downtown Windsor Revitalization Plan, the bins are part of Windsor’s Curb the Trash campaign.

“This initiative takes action to make our downtown cleaner,” said Counc. Renaldo Agostino. “A clean downtown sends a message, to residents, business owners and visitors, that we care about this place.”

According to Jim Leether, Manager of Environmental Services in Windsor, the bins have a proven track record across North America and Europe. “We now embark on tackling litter and debris with the introduction of these fully enclosed metroSTOR bins,” said Leether.

The new bins build on the region’s previous deployment of an electric-powered street vacuum.
