‘I thought it was a scam’: Mcgregor woman celebrates $100,000 Encore win

A Mcgregor woman says she thought it was a scam when won $100,000.

Mitzi Fujs of McGregor matched the last six of seven Encore numbers in exact order in the Sept. 9, Lotto Max draw to win $100,000.

The 60-year-old said she’s been a weekly lottery player with OLG for about 40 years.

“This win is an absolute joy,” she said while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to collect her winnings.

“When I received the email about my win, I thought it was a scam,” she said. “I walked over to my son to show him, and he just giggled.”

Fujs, who works as a teacher, said she is retiring this coming June, and this win feels like all the stars have aligned.

“It’s perfect timing,” she said. “I feel very grateful.”

She plans to put a portion of her winnings toward bills and share with her son.
