December Ontario Works cheques to be given out in person once again

Despite a tentative agreement being reached between Canada Post and the union, Ontario Works cheques and payment cards will still be given out in person for December.

A tentative agreement was reached on Nov. 21 and strikes were suspended, however it’s currently unknown when the ratification vote will take place.

Here’s how you can get your payments from the City of Windsor:

Direct deposit recipients

If you get your payments through direct deposit, it will continue as normal and is not affected by any postal issues.

Cheque recipients

Ontario Works clients who receive payment by cheque or direct bank deposit statements with a bus pass and those issued a new reloadable payment card will be able to pick it up at one of the cheque distribution centres:

• The Windsor office is open on Friday and Monday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 400 City Hall Square East, Suite 102
• The Leamington office is open Friday and Monday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 33 Princess Street Leamington

If you’re picking up, you have to bring two pieces of government-issued identification, one with a photo. No cheques or cards can be picked up by another person on the recipient’s behalf. Status of payment is also available on the MyBenefits app

Daily cheques

Daily cheques will continue to be available for pickup. They can be picked up at both the Windsor and Leamington offices listed above.

Vendor cheques

Vendor cheques for vendors and landlords that support Ontario Works clients will be mailed.
