The City of Windsor is exploring a new federal-provincial funding program that could unlock millions of dollars for infrastructure while also helping to spur new home construction. The Development Charge Reduction Program will provide funding for projects such as roads, water, wastewater, and transit. However, municipalities must reduce development charges by at least 30 per cent and maintain those reductions for three years. Mayor Drew Dilkens says city staff are reviewing the details of the new funding program to ensure Windsor maximizes its potential funding. A report outlining the city’s application strategy is scheduled before council Monday. Dilkens says Windsor plans to submit an ambitious proposal, adding that reducing development charges could help stalled housing projects secure financing and move forward.
