City hall square area being winterized for ice rink

Preparations are underway for the ice rink at City Hall Square.

The fountain area at Windsor’s city hall square is being winterized.

Mayor Drew Dilkens says when the weather turns cold, the city will be able to fire up the ice rink.

This rink replaces Charles Clark Square, but Dilkens says this one is equivalent to any rink residents will find in any arena.

If the temperatures warm up, the rink can get a little slushy on top, so city officials will be monitoring it.

There will also be special lighting and music. Dilkens says it will offer a much better experience than people have had skating downtown in the past.

“We think the public is going to love it,” he said. “We look forward to having everyone downtown to enjoy their new amenity.”
