Chatham-Kent, Essex get funding for emergency preparedness for legacy gas/oil wells

Local municipalities will benefit from an investment into emergency preparedness funding from the provincial government.

Chatham-Kent and Essex were recipients of funding to enhance emergency preparedness for legacy gas or oil wells.

The $4 million funding was split between nine municipalities.

This comes after a hydrogen sulphide gas explosion in Wheatley in 2021.

Nobody was killed in the incident, but two were hurt.

For more than four years, the site of the explosion has been monitored.
