Man charged with second-degree murder after homicide in Richmond, B.C.

Homicide investigators have been called to a Richmond highrise near Capstan Station after a serious incident that left a woman dead.

A man has been charged with the second-degree murder of a woman who died in hospital after being found with serious injuries at a home in Richmond, B.C., Friday.

The incident occurred around 10:40 a.m. at the 8600 block of Capstan Way.

According to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, the B.C. Prosecution Service approved one count of second-degree murder against 33-year-old Richmond man George Dragnea on Saturday.

Homicide investigators said the incident had been an isolated one and the two were in a relationship. Neither had police history related to intimate partner violence.

“We are saddened by this tragedy,” said Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT.

Fong commended the co-ordinated efforts of the police teams, coroners service and prosecution service to lay the charge in 24 hours, but said there is “still a lot of work” that needs to be done as they continue to support the victim’s grieving family and the prosecution process.
