Free rides for cyclists return to BC Transit buses during GoByBike Week

Cyclists will have free access to BC Transit buses starting tomorrow and running until June 5th.

If you’re planning to pedal your way around Greater Victoria next week, you might not need to go the whole distance.

Cyclists will be able to ride for free on BC Transit buses from May 30 to June 5 as part of spring GoByBike Week celebrations.

The idea is simple: hop on with your bike, and the fare is waived.

To take advantage, riders can either load their bike onto the front rack of the bus or show a cycling helmet to the driver when boarding.

It comes as part of a broader provincewide cycling initiative that continues to grow. According to GoByBikeBC, participants across British Columbia logged more than 790,000 rides in 2025, covering nearly 12 million kilometres, and helping reduce an estimated 2.6 million kilograms of greenhouse gas emissions.

All conventional BC Transit buses in the Victoria area are equipped with front-mounted bike racks, though space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The promotion applies within the Victoria Regional Transit System and is part of BC Transit’s ongoing partnership with GoByBike programming across the province.

Beyond the free rides, the week will also feature community celebration stations, including an early morning event at Saanich Municipal Hall on June 5 from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., where BC Transit will be on site.
