A New Brunswick man who was wanted in Nova Scotia has been arrested after he allegedly fled from police and was found hiding in the woods. On June 24, Annapolis District RCMP said 33-year-old Jeffrey Allan Stoddart of Moncton, N.B., was wanted on a provincewide arrest warrant for allegedly failing to comply with a release order. They said he was believed to be in Annapolis County. RCMP responded to a report of an “unwelcome man” at a home on Highway 201 in South Williamston, N.S., around 11:25 p.m. Friday. Police say the man, who turned out to be Stoddart, had already fled into a wooded area before officers arrived. “While searching for the man, officers heard four possible gunshots coming from the woods,” said the RCMP in an update Monday. “No injuries were reported.” The RCMP called in additional resources, including police dogs, the Emergency Response Team, and drone operators, to help in the search. Police say officers used drone technology to detect a heat signature in some dense brush, which helped them locate Stoddart. “The man resisted arrest and was bitten by a police service dog,” said the RCMP. “He was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, medically cleared, and remanded into custody.” In addition to a charge of failing to comply with a release order, Stoddart now faces additional charges of failing to comply with conditions and obstructing a peace officer.
