A months-long drug investigation in Central Saanich has led to charges against a local man after police seized cocaine, cash and a collection of vehicles and other valuables investigators believe are linked to criminal activity. Central Saanich police say detectives began investigating a home in July 2025. Following several months of surveillance, officers arrested 60-year-old John Patrick Sampson and executed a search warrant at the property in November with assistance from the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team. Officers say they recovered about $18,000 in cash, approximately 25 ounces of cocaine, 19 ounces of psilocybin mushrooms, drug packaging materials, an industrial pill press and two pairs of brass knuckles. Investigators also seized property they believe represents the proceeds of crime, including a classic Dodge two-door coupe, a Plymouth Barracuda, a Chevrolet Silverado, a classic powerboat, four motorcycles, including two Harley-Davidsons and 43 guitars. The items have been referred to B.C.’s Civil Forfeiture Office. Police say a second search warrant was carried out at the home in February 2026, resulting in the seizure of an additional $5,000 in cash and more cocaine. The BC Prosecution Service has approved charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a prohibited weapon. Sampson is scheduled to appear in Victoria provincial court on July 9.
