Zipline, tree canopy walkway coming to Vancouver’s Queen Elizabeth Park this summer

Visitors to Queen Elizabeth Park will soon be able to enjoy a whole new vantage point of the city after the Vancouver Park Board approved plans for two new attractions in the area.

In a news release Tuesday, the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation said a zipline and tree canopy walkway are coming to the park sometime this summer.

The additions were given the stamp of approval during Monday night’s park board meeting.

“These experiences will not only add to the thrill of visiting the park, but they will also offer new viewpoints for us to enjoy nature,” Vancouver Park Board Chair Tom Digby said in the release. “We are continuing to deliver on our commitment to enhancing our perks with these additions.”

Officials said the decision to bring these experiences to the park was made with education, conservation, sustainability and revenue generation in mind.

The attractions will be designed by Greenheart, a private company based in Vancouver that is focused on “creating nature based attractions.”

The tree canopy walk will span 300 metres, while the zipline will run 120 metres.

The park board said the attractions will be priced between $16 and $20 per person on average, and will be included as part of its Leisure Access Program.

“These experiences will engage park users in new ways, while building on the success and popularity of the zipline activation in Queen Elizabeth Park in 2015,” officials added.

Other planned additions include a visitor centre, mobile food services and a seasonal bus service—connecting Queen Elizabeth Park and VanDusen Botanical Garden with Granville Island.
