A woman is dead after being struck by a police vehicle at a Chevron gas station in Surrey, B.C., on Christmas morning, prompting a watchdog investigation. The pedestrian collision happened as a member of the Surrey Police Service was pulling out of the gas station around 6 a.m., according to the Independent Investigations Office. The watchdog, which is notified of every police-involved incident resulting in death or serious harm, said it’s in the early stages of investigating what happened. B.C. Emergency Health Services told CTV News two ambulances responded to the collision, and that paramedics treated the pedestrian at the scene before rushing her to hospital in critical condition. In a short statement issued Thursday afternoon, the Surrey Police Service confirmed the woman has “tragically passed away.” “SPS is unable to provide additional information while the IIO’s independent process is taking place,” the department said. Authorities have not shared any details on the deceased’s identity, except that she was an adult.
