CTV News Vancouver took home three Radio Television Digital News Association awards for Best Canadian Local News on Saturday. Veteran reporter and anchor Michele Brunoro won a multiplatform award for Enterprise Journalism (Large Market) for her in-depth video and digital series Hidden in Plain Sight: Human Trafficking and the B.C. Connection. Reporter St. John Alexander was bestowed the award in the VJ Video category for his piece The Darkest Day Debate, which looked at the controversy over B.C.’s move to permanent daylight time. The newsroom was also honoured in the Breaking News (Regional, Large Market) category for its coverage of flooding in B.C.’s Fraser Valley. “From breaking news reporting that kept residents informed during a local state of emergency, to an original investigation we covered on all of our different digital platforms, to visual storytelling at the highest level—these three national awards really showcase the depth of talent and the passion for good journalism in our newsroom,” said Ethan Faber, news director at CTV News Vancouver. CTV News’ national and local newsrooms won a total of 42 RTDNA Canada awards at Saturday’s annual gala.
