Van driver fled scene after hitting motorcyclist, New Westminster police say

A motorcyclist was taken to hospital after a hit-and-run in New Westminster Saturday evening, according to police.

The New Westminster Police Department says officers responded to the collision between a motorcyclist and driver in the 200 block of McBride Boulevard around 5:30 p.m.

“Officers learned that a motorcyclist had been struck by the driver of a white van and that the driver fled the scene,” police wrote in a statement Saturday. “It is believed the white van was travelling northbound on McBride Boulevard before the collision and that the driver fled southbound on McBride Boulevard following the collision.”

The department asked anyone who witnessed the crash or has dash-camera video to contact them, and for the involved driver to come forward.

“Dash-cam footage can be of great value to our investigators,” Sgt. Jacquelyn Mula said, in the statement. “Our investigators are grateful for any co-operation and will be reviewing all footage.”
