Police in Kamloops, B.C., have arrested two suspects after an RCMP bait car was stolen last week. A police bait vehicle equipped with tracking and surveillance technology was stolen Nov. 6, the Kamloops RCMP said in a statement Friday. Officers, with the help of police dogs, tracked the car and arrested its two occupants “a short time later,” the statement said. Bait vehicles, also known as decoy cars, are vehicles used by law enforcement to catch people stealing cars or items from within cars. “This is a perfect example of technology and proactive policing working hand in hand,” said Supt. Jeff Pelley, in the release. “Bait vehicles are an impactful means to target offenders committing property crime and holding them accountable for their actions.” Carrie-Lyn LePage and Timothy Molner were charged Nov. 7 with the theft of the vehicle, alongside breaching court orders. Both remain in custody and are awaiting bail hearings.
