Police in Abbotsford say they seized three BB guns and more than $11,000 in counterfeit currency from a trio of teenagers who were trespassing at a local construction site. The Abbotsford Police Department shared a photo of the seized items in a social media post Wednesday, alongside a brief description of the incident. Officers were called to the construction site because an alarm had been triggered, police said. When they arrived, they found the teens, all ages 14 and 15, hiding on the property. The teens had “gained unauthorized access” to the construction site and had climbed a large crane, according to police. Asked for more information, Abbotsford police spokesperson Sgt. Paul Walker told CTV News via email that the incident occurred shortly after midnight on Tuesday and involved the teens climbing a tower crane. Two of the youths are 14 years old and the third is 15, Walker said. “No charges are being pursued in this matter,” he added. “The parents of the youths have been engaged throughout the investigation and have been co-operative with police.” Asked how the teens ended up in possession of so much counterfeit cash, Walker said the origin of the currency “remains unclear” at this time. “This incident highlights the public safety concerns associated with unauthorized access to construction sites,” the post reads. “In addition to the risk of significant injury or death from heavy machinery, excavations, and elevated work areas, entering a construction site without permission may result in criminal charges of break and enter. Construction sites are not playgrounds and can present numerous hidden hazards, particularly after hours when no workers are present.” Police added that parents and guardians should speak to their children about “the dangers and legal consequences of trespassing, as well as the legal implications of possessing imitation firearms in public and counterfeit currency.”
