Suspect arrested after 2 reports of ‘a man striking a woman’ in New Westminster, B.C., police say

Authorities arrested a suspect after receiving two separate 911 calls about a woman being assaulted on the street in New Westminster, B.C., this week.

In a news release, the New Westminster Police Department said members responded to a pair of incidents allegedly involving “a man striking a woman as they were walking” early Monday afternoon.

Officers arrested a suspect without incident near Nanaimo and 18^th streets and provided aid to the victim, the department said.

“Our investigators work closely with our Victim Assistance Unit and community-based support services so victims in these situations get the information and care they require,” said Sgt. Jacquelyn Mula, in a statement.

“If something like this happens to you, you don’t have to navigate it alone.”

Authorities have not said whether any charges have been laid in connection with Monday’s incident, or whether the suspect and victim knew each other.
