‘Strong and gusty winds’ expected for B.C.’s South Coast

A special weather statement is in effect for B.C.’s South Coast where “strong and gusty winds” are expected starting Monday.

Environment and Climate Change Canada said wind speeds of up to 70 km/h are expected for Metro Vancouver, the Southern Gulf Islands, Greater Victoria and east Vancouver Island from Duncan to Nanaimo.

“A vigorous cold front will cross the South Coast on Monday,” the weather agency said.

“Strong wind gusts may toss loose objects and break tree branches,” the statement continued, adding that power outages and travel disruptions are possible.

The winds is expected to ease up by Tuesday morning, according to ECCC.
